NOW works on multiple fronts to create lasting change for women and girls across America.
Our work falls into three core areas: grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and legal action. Each reinforces the others, creating a comprehensive strategy for progress that has defined NOW for more than five decades.
Grassroots Organizing
Through our network of over 500 local chapters, we mobilize communities around the issues that matter most. From voter registration drives to protest marches, from campus organizing to workplace equity campaigns, our grassroots power is the engine of our movement. We train activists, build coalitions, and create the infrastructure for sustained resistance.
Legislative Advocacy
NOW's voice is heard in every corridor of power. Our lobbyists work Capitol Hill, state legislatures, and city councils to advance feminist legislation and block attacks on our rights. We fight for the Equal Rights Amendment, reproductive justice, pay equity, and protections against violence and discrimination. Our members generate hundreds of thousands of calls, emails, and letters to elected officials every year.
Legal Action
Through the NOW Foundation and Legal Defense and Education Fund, we take on precedent-setting cases that defend and expand women's rights. From workplace discrimination to Title IX enforcement, from reproductive freedom to constitutional challenges, our legal team fights for justice in the courts. We also file amicus briefs in major cases affecting women's rights nationwide.
Public Education
We change hearts and minds through public awareness campaigns, media outreach, and educational programs. Our publications, social media presence, and speaking engagements reach millions of people each year, shifting the cultural conversation toward equality.
This multi-faceted approach ensures that we're not just reacting to attacks — we're building the world we want to see. Every day, in every way, we're working to make feminism real in people's lives.
